Terms of use

The rules for using The Local Bus. Last changed 13 October 2026.

The short version

The site is run under the trading name The Local Bus by its owner, an individual rather than a registered company. It is independent and is not run by or for any bus or train company. The contact page reaches the owner directly. How your details are handled is on the privacy page.

The information on the site

Timetables, live positions, disruptions and fares come from bus and train operators and from public open data. They can be late, incomplete or wrong, and a bus shown on the map may not be where it appears. The site is a guide, not a guarantee. If a journey matters, check it with the operator.

Pace notes, bridge heights, road limits and the depot tools are aids for drivers and depots. They do not replace road signs, an operator's route risk assessments or a driver's own judgement on the road.

Accounts

An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with it. Accounts that break these terms can be suspended or closed, and you can delete yours at any time from your account page.

Things you contribute

Pictures, corrections, captions and profile details you add remain yours. By adding them you give The Local Bus a free, non-exclusive, worldwide and lasting permission to store, resize, show and publish them on the site and when promoting it, with your username where the site shows one.

Only add what you made yourself or have permission to share. Nothing unlawful, offensive, misleading or showing someone else's personal details. Every contribution is reviewed, and any of it can be declined or removed. You can delete what you contributed, as the privacy page describes.

What you may not do

Open data

Much of what the site shows comes from open data with its own licences: the Bus Open Data Service and NaPTAN under the Open Government Licence, the National Transport Authority under CC BY 4.0, map data from OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database Licence, and others credited on the home page. These terms do not limit anything those licences let you do with the data, which you can get from its original source.

Copyright and the name

© 2026 The Local Bus. All rights reserved. The site's code, design, text, logo and its own records belong to The Local Bus, apart from the open data above and what people contribute. The Local Bus name and logo are trade marks of The Local Bus.

Liability

The site is free and provided as it is. The Local Bus is not responsible for losses from relying on it, such as a missed bus, a missed connection or a journey that took longer than shown. Nothing here limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer.

Changes and the law

These terms may change as the site does. If they change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with them. They are governed by the law of England and Wales.
